JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The loggers of Chaney & Sons Logging of Birch Tree were selected by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) as the Ozark Region’s Loggers of the Year for 2012. The Chaney & Sons Logging crew is made up of a family team; Bryan Chaney, Denny Chaney and Roy Chaney.

According to MDC Resource Assistant Robert Crewse, who nominated the loggers, it was specific efforts that gained the group this prestigious honor.

“This crew worked hard to continually clean up storm damage on Angeline Conservation Area, and they do this hard work while taking precautions to lessen the impact of soil erosion and sedimentation to the area,” Crewse wrote in his nomination letter.

Additionally, the Chaney & Sons logging crew has years of experience working in the Ozarks forests, which positively influences the crew’s efficiency, safety and productivity. They notified MDC when they spotted feral hog sign on one of the conservation areas, which enabled the department to eradicate the invasive animals before they could spread further on that area.

“The professionalism of this crew shows in the way they handle themselves in the woods and how they go above and beyond the standards of best practices, and we appreciate them for that,” said MDC’s Forestry Field Programs Supervisor Jason Jensen.
