SPANISH LAKE, Mo.—Science and art really can get along. To help prove it, the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is hosting Wild Wednesdays throughout the month of June. These all day, outdoor adventures are tailored to kids age 8-12 and run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each Wednesday in June. Participants will join MDC naturalists for a learning experience focused on discovering more about the area’s plant, insect, fish, and wildlife resources, using both science and art.
The day starts in the morning with an introduction to and information about a natural resource topic, followed by an outdoor activity like hiking, birding, insect collecting, or fishing. After lunch, kids will do a craft inspired by the day’s topic such as insect pinning, painting, or drawing. The whole experiences are designed to challenge children both in areas of reasoning and creativity.

Participants can sign up for one or all Wild Wednesdays programs, and should bring a lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray. The programs are free, but advanced online registration is required by going to https://tinyurl.com/yd6s5c4f.
Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is located at 801 Strodtman Road in north St. Louis County. The area can be reached by taking the Riverview Drive Exit from I-270 and travelling north approximately 3 miles.
