St. LOUIS, Mo.—Summer is not quite half over.  For kids on summer break, knowing they have a lot more time before going back to school is great news.  For parents and guardians looking for something constructive and educational to occupy their kids time, it might not be.

If you’ve ran out of ideas on how to get your kids outdoors this summer, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has some helpful ideas. Why not turn outdoors into an adventure?

MDC is offering a free online program for parents called Adventurous Outdoor Summer Activities on Thursday, July 8, from 1-1:30 p.m.  Join MDC Conservation Educator Becky Robertson for a quick virtual 30-minute presentation on some fun outdoor adventures that you can have in your own backyard or a close-to-home field trip to a nearby park or conservation area.

Robertson will offer simple, yet constructive activities to help get the kids outdoors and engaged, like looking for a frog or toad, catching a firefly, growing a flower or a tree, even seeking out secret treasures on a scavenger hunt.  She’ll offer helpful ideas and free resources to enable your family to have an entire summer of outdoor adventures.

Adventurous Outdoor Summer Activities is a free program; however, advanced online registration is required at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZV5. This is a virtual event conducted through WebEx. Participants will receive an email invitation with the program link approximately 24 hours prior to the event. Please check junk mail/spam folders if you do not receive the invitation.

Program registrants should note that families now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own which will streamline the program registration process.  Once a group account is set up, parents will be able to register their children to an event without having to logoff and login for each person.  This allows parents to register an entire family or select family members to an event at the same time.
