Learn how reptiles and amhibians prepare for winter at Nov. 5 MDC virtual program

BRANSON, Mo. – Reptiles and amphibians can’t migrate south or grow thicker fur to survive winter, but many of these animals have their unique ways of surviving the colder months that are coming up.

People can learn more about the adaptations reptiles and amphibians make to survive winter at the Friday, Nov. 5 Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) virtual program “How Amphibians and Reptiles Prepare for Winter.” This online event, which is being conducted by staff at the MDC’s Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center, will be 6-7 p.m. At this program, MDC Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center volunteer John Miller will discuss how some amphibians and reptiles change their body chemistry, slow their metabolism, or do both to survive winter. This program is designed for ages 3 and up. People can register for this program at:

Though this program is free, registration is required to participate using the links above. Registrants must provide an e-mail, so a program link can be sent to them. Both programs will include chat-based question-and-answer periods where participants can interact with the presenters.

Program registrants should note that they now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own, which will streamline the program registration process. Once a group account is set up, parents will be able to register their children for an event without having to log-off or log-in for each person. This allows parents to register an entire family or select family members for an event at the same time.
