Learn more about wildlife at MDC’s animal skull investigation programs

St. LOUIS, Mo.—You can learn a lot about Missouri wildlife by simply using your head . . . and theirs.

Did you know you can be like Sherlock Holmes and deduce a lot about an animal just from its skull?  Use Your Head is a program presented by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Tuesday, Nov. 15 and Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. It will demonstrate how much can be discovered by examining animal skulls. 

The Nov. 15 program will be held at Rockwoods Reservation in Wildwood, and the Nov. 16 program will be at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles.

Participants at both programs will have the chance to study and learn about a variety of Missouri wildlife from real animal skull samples using hands-on investigations.  What animal is it? What and how does it eat?  How big is it?  How good is its vision, its sense of smell?  Where does it live? It’s possible to find these answers if you know what to look for.  Join MDC naturalists as they show how to use your head to unlock the many clues hidden in the heads of animals.

Rockwoods Reservation is located at 2751 Glencoe Road, off Highway 109.  The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is located at 2360 Highway D, two miles west of Highway 94.
