JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has canceled the native plant sale previously scheduled to take place Saturday, March 28, at Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City.

MDC canceled the event in order to help protect public safety amid concerns about coronavirus and the disease it causes (COVID-19).

The native plant sale has become a favorite annual event at Runge Nature Center, held in partnership with the Missouri Prairie Foundation’s (MPF) Grow Native! program. Organizers hope to reschedule the plant sale later this spring, if possible. For information on other opportunities to purchase native plants, customers can contact the following vendors who had planned to be present at the nature center this weekend:

For more information on native plants and how you can benefit Missouri conservation efforts by planting them on your property, visit MPF Grow Native! at moprairie.org/GrowNative/Home/GrowNative.

The indoor facility at Runge Nature Center is closed through April 15, though trails on the area remain open 6 a.m.–9 p.m. daily.

Visitors to the area should practice safe social distancing and otherwise adhere to guidelines issued by state and federal public health agencies to prevent the spread of coronavirus and protect public safety.
