HIGH RIDGE, Mo. — Whether the bow-wielding hero you admired growing up was Robin Hood or Katniss Everdeen, archery is a sport for all ages and generations. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to introduce the whole family to this lifetime sport with a choice of two Archery Basics for Families classes. Each class will teach the essentials of archery and allow for practice time.

The Archery Basics for Families classes will be held both Thursday, May 23 and Thursday, May 30, from 5:30 p.m.—7:30 p.m. Both classes will be at the Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in High Ridge. Each class is free and open to those age nine and older; however, participants 9-15 must be accompanied by an adult.

These programs will introduce the fundamentals for safely and successfully shooting a compound bow, followed by hands-on practice. All equipment will be provided by MDC. The class will meet at the Henges archery range. Topics covered will include archery safety, operation, shooting basics, maintenance, and safe storage.

Advanced online reservations required at the following links.

The Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is located at 1100 Antire Road, just off I-44, exit 269 in High Ridge.
