HIGH RIDGE, Mo.—If you’d like to join the rich heritage of deer hunting in Missouri but don’t know where to begin, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has the perfect opportunity this July.

MDC presents the Learn to Deer Hunt Open House Tuesday, July 12 at the Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in High Ridge.  The event will run from 6-8 p.m. and will offer the chance for visitors to drop by any time during the two hours to speak with MDC experts on a number of aspects about hunting.  The open house is free and open to the public.

Instead of a single structured program, the open house format will present information tables that will address topics, including deer hunting regulations, required and recommended equipment, how to field dress a deer, and how to prepare venison. Visitors will also discover the many benefits of deer hunting.  MDC staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.

Deer hunting is a tradition the whole family can enjoy.  It is also a source for local, natural, and healthy protein that offers an alternative to store-bought meat.

The open house will also give visitors a chance to apply for managed/mentored hunts MDC will offer this fall.

Conservation makes Missouri a great place to hunt.  The Learn to Deer Hunt Open House will be a great place for taking the first step toward learning how.

Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is located off I-44 at 1100 Antire Road.  For more information, call 636-938-9548, or email henges.range@mdc.mo.gov
