EMINENCE, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host the Ozark Timber Industry Celebration Saturday, May 12, at Eminence City Park. Loggers are invited, as well as the public. Morning events will include presentations from the MFPA Logging School, Pioneer Forest, and Trees Work. There will also be logging equipment displays and children’s activities.

“We’ve made this event fun for the kids with a log loader, a bug sampling activity and a tree give away,” said Gary Gognat, MDC resource forester.

In the afternoon, Howell-Oregon Electric Coop will present about logging and power line safety and the Missouri Forest Products Association will provide Professional Timber Harvester continuing education credits for loggers who attend.

“Loggers are important to conservation; we [MDC] want to be sure to support them with a fun day that shows our appreciation, but also with opportunities for further training and professional support,” Gognat said.

Lunch will be provided by the Missouri University Extension. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and registration is not required. For more information, call MDC’s Forestry Office at (573)226-3616.
