COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites new turkey hunters to prepare for spring turkey hunting season in Columbia. MDC will offer an introduction to turkey hunting class on March 20 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the MDC Central Regional Office, 3500 E. Gans Road, in Columbia.

Participants will learn about wild turkey biology and habitat, hunting safety, calling, regulations, and methods. All ages are welcome to attend the clinic, but participants age 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

A limited number of mentored youth hunts will be offered April 7 and 8 for participants aged 11 – 15 years old. Attendance at the clinic on March 20 is mandatory to be considered eligible for the mentored hunts.

“Turkey hunting is as challenging as it is rewarding,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Justin McGuire. “This class is full of useful information which is meant as an introduction for new hunters, but is also useful to supplement the knowledge of more experienced hunters.”

Preregistration is required to attend this beginner turkey hunting clinic, by visiting the MDC online event management site:  mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/156288. For more information, contact McGuire at Justin.McGuire@mdc.mo.gov, or (573) 815-7901, ext. 2866.
