MDC invites public to June 19 kayaking clinic in West Plains

LICKING, Mo. – Whether you enjoy fishing area streams or you simply like to relax by spending a day paddling a local waterway, kayaks are increasing in popularity as ways to connect with the outdoors.

People can learn more about kayaks at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) clinic “Beginner Kayaking” June 19 at MDC’s George O. White Nursery near Licking. This free event is for ages 12 and up; individuals under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Areas covered in this clinic will include, terminology, safety and basic paddling strokes. After a brief instructional session, participants will get a chance to test their kayaking skills on the lake that’s at the nursery. Participants should wear appropriate clothes and shoes for the water (no flip-flops). Bring drinking water. All other supplies will be provided. People need to register online at:
