HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites teachers interested in starting archery programs in their schools to attend a Basic Archery Instructor course. Part of MDC’s Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP), the free class will take place on Tuesday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.at Veterans Elementary School, 790 Veterans Road, in Hannibal.
MDC offers free MoNASP teacher training and equipment grants to help launch in-school archery programs across the state. MoNASP helps build confident, strong, and accomplished kids, improving their self-reliance skills and knowledge about wildlife conservation.
MoNASP supports international-style target archery in grades 4-12 within physical education classes during the school day. Statistics show that school archery programs improve school attendance, increase confidence, improve behavior, increase physical activity, and appeal to all students.
“I encourage schools to teach archery because archery is a lifetime sport that everyone, regardless of ability, can participate in,” said MDC Conservation Education Consultant Kathi Moore. “It is fun, safe, builds confidence and increases focus.”
