St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free fishing clinic from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 23, at Krug Park Lagoon in St. Joseph. This clinic is great opportunity for newcomers to try out fishing with assistance from MDC staff and volunteers. MDC will provide all gear and bait.

MDC stocks the lagoon with fish annually in a partnership with the St. Joseph Parks, Recreation, and Civic Facilities Department. The program provides a close-to-home fishing opportunity. The lagoon is nestled in a scenic valley within historic Krug Park.

Brandon Johnson and Kelsey Gillenwater, MDC community education assistants, will lead the clinic. They will discuss common Missouri sport fish, fishing tackle and methods, and regulations. Then participants will actually go fishing with help from the instructors. This session will give participants the knowledge and confidence to go fishing on their own and catch fish.

The clinic is open to all ages. Individuals and families are welcome. Missouri residents over age 15 and under 65 need a valid fishing permit. Non-residents over 15 need a state fishing permit. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. Registration is required. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/4wK.
