MDC offers free turkey hunting classes March 5 and March 19 in the Kansas City area

Kansas City, Mo. – Learn about wild turkey hunting with free classes by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). These classes during March will provide training in the skills, equipment, and regulations for hunting a premier game bird.

MDC’s Lake City Shooting Range will offer Turkey Hunting Basics from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5. Instructor Judy Farnsworth, MDC community education assistant, will discuss scouting techniques, set up sites, calling turkeys, strategies, decoys and shot placement. This session will also help experienced turkey hunters improve their skills. The class is open to participants ages 11 and older. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. MDC’s Burr Oak Woods Nature Center will host an Introduction to Turkey Hunting class from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 19. Instructor John Rittel, MDC community education assistant, will discuss identifying toms and hens, turkey habits and natural habitats, techniques, safety, equipment, and caring for harvested turkeys. This class is for ages 11 and older. Participants ages 11 to 15 must be accompanied by a participating adult. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed.
