Warsaw, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free youth trout fishing event from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Lost Valley Fish Hatchery. This event is a good way to introduce youngsters to fishing at a hatchery pond stocked with trout by MDC.

This event is open to young anglers ages 3 to 15. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parents or guardians may help them fish. The fishing will be catch and release. MDC can provide all fishing equipment needed. Anglers may also bring their own gear and bait. Bait that an angler carries in water is not allowed to prevent introduction of invasive species. MDC staff and volunteers will be on hand to coach and assist participants.

In January, young anglers fished during a snowstorm and enjoyed catching fish at a similar Lost Valley event, said Kara Entrop, MDC community education assistant. But if the weather forecasted for Feb. 19 is too inclement, participants will be notified about a date change. COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed.

Registration is required for all participants. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/44o.
