MDC offers small acreage conservation workshop Jan. 17

Kansas City, Mo. – With proper management, small acreages can provide big benefits for people who enjoy native plants and wildlife. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free conservation management workshop for small acreages 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Bass Pro Shop in Independence. Registration is required by Jan. 12.

MDC Urban Forester Chuck Conner and MDC Private Land Conservationist Andy Carmack will talk about ways landowners can manage habitat to achieve goals. Topics covered will include:

  • Attracting wildlife to your acreage.
  • Tree and shrub planting for landscaping and wildlife value.
  • Identification and control of common invasive species.
  • Woodland management.
  • Equipment that is available for loan to the public for habitat improvements.

Whether a property owner seeks more butterflies or birds, deer or turkeys, or simply colorful trees and wildflowers, this workshop will provide information to help.
