JOPLIN, Mo. – In addition to helping you tell one tree from another, learning how to identify tree species will also help develop a deeper understanding of how trees help both people and wildlife.
People can learn more trees and how to identify them on Sept. 4 at “Conservation in the Parks: A Walk in the Trees.” This program, which will be from 3-4 p.m. at Utility Arboretum in Landreth Park, is being put on by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the Wildcat Glades Friends Group, and the Joplin Parks and Recreation Department. Landreth Park is located at 1001 Murphy Blvd. in Joplin.
At this program, staff from MDC and from the Wildcat Glades Friends Group will discuss how to identify trees, why they’re such a valuable part of the landscape, and how leaves develop the beautiful colors seen each fall. Participants should wear shoes and clothes that are comfortable for a walk through the park. COVID-19 procedures will be in place during this workshop.
