and superheroes on Friday, Oct. 15. Plus, real-world heroes, such as neighborhood civic groups, joined the fun as the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) hosted it’s annual HOWLoween event in Kansas City.
More than 500 people attended the evening event that featured nature stations, crafts for children, and treats provided by neighborhood groups. Trails in the center’s outdoor garden became a night-time nature trek with stops along the way to see live spiders, visit the pole-and-vine teepee, and see wildlife exhibits. The Kansas City Police Department co-hosted the event with MDC. Plus, more than 24 different community groups set up visitor stations with treats and information about their activities.
“It’s great that so many partners are interested in working with us,” said Stacey Davis, MDC’s Discovery Center manager.
MDC’s Discovery Center is open year-round with daytime hours Tuesday through Saturday, excluding holidays. The center’s native plant garden with wildflowers, prairie grasses, and a shady woodland path are popular with visitors.
