Ohrenberg promoted to Protection Branch Lieutenant for MDC's Southwest Region

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Shannon Ohrenberg’s new job as Springfield District Protection Branch Lieutenant in the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Southwest Region has her overseeing enforcement duties in an area she knows well.

In her new role, Lieutenant Ohrenberg will supervise conservation agents in Greene, Dallas, Laclede, and Webster counties.  She began her duties May 1 and replaces Alan Daniels, who retired earlier this year.

Lt. Ohrenberg is very familiar with her four-county district. Prior to her current role, the Springfield native had been a conservation agent in Greene County since September of 2003. Before that, she had worked at MDC’s Southwest Regional Office as a public service assistant since 1999. Ohrenberg was named MDC’s Outstanding Conservation Agent of the Year for the Southwest Region in 2013 and was named the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Missouri Wildlife Officer of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

Ohrenberg graduated from Glendale High School in Springfield and from Drury College (now Drury University). She graduated from the Conservation Agents’ Academy in 2003. She said enforcing Missouri’s fish and game laws is a job that has many different aspects to it and is always interesting.

“Ninety-nine percent of the people you encounter are really excited about being outside and enjoying Missouri’s natural resources,” she said. “It’s a unique law-enforcement job that fits my personality well. In my new role, I’m excited to be able to offer support to the agents in the field around MDC’s Southwest Region and to help them do their jobs more effectively.”
