WILDWOOD, Mo.—Outdoor lovers with a competitive streak can rise to the challenge during a great nature-themed contest this summer. The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Rockwoods Reservation will host the Amazing Rockwoods Race competition Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m.-noon. Much like the popular TV program, participants will take on physical and mental challenges as they discover nature in a unique and active way.

Teams should consist of groups or families of two-to-five, age 9 and up. At least one adult must be present in each team. Teams will race along the trails of Rockwood Reservation and compete in a variety of nature and outdoor skills themed contests. These include hiking, archery, nature identification, and more.

The race will promptly begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon. The first team to meet all the challenges correctly and to check in will be the winner of the 2019 Amazing Rockwoods Reservation Race. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three placing teams.

“The Amazing Rockwoods Race will provide an opportunity for families to sample a variety of different outdoor activities through nature themed challenges across our fabulous conservation area,” said MDC Naturalist Emily Crawford.

Crawford suggested that participants visit Rockwoods before the race to hike the trails and brush up on their identification skills and their knowledge of Rockwood’s history. No electronic devices will be allowed for solving challenges. She also said teams should pack their own backpack of snacks and hiking needs, but all field guides and other items necessary for the challenge will be provided by MDC.

The program is free but advanced registration is required by going to http://bit.ly/2JqTjFy.   Those interested in participating should register only one team member per team online. That team member will be contacted via email within two days of registration with further instructions for their team. The registered team member must respond to the email within two days to save their team’s spot.

Rockwoods Reservation is located off Highway 109 in Wildwood, at 2751 Glencoe Road.
