Join us as we read OF TIME AND TURTLES by Sy Montgomery (one of our favorite authors). This book is about rescuing turtles and the people who devote their lives to saving them.

“ . . . and fish is fish and that’s that!” So writes Leo Lionni in his classic book, Fish Is Fish. We will explore their watery world this month through crafts, activities, and a story. Registration required. At least one child in the 0-2 range AND at least one child in the 3-6 range.

The animals are hungry! Watch as a Runge naturalist feeds the snakes, amphibians, and turtles. Be sure to include your email address in your registration. Presenter will email the program link to participants both the day before and day of the program. Registration required. All ages

You are invited to our annual stream team clean-up at Runge on our section of Wears Creek. Let’s wade in the water, pick up trash, and explore the life that calls our creek home. Don’t forget to wear old clothes and shoes to get wet and muddy. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Registration required. Ages 7-12

Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is an ever-changing floodplain which can reveal unexpected beauty and provide a peaceful mood to relax after a long work week. Join us for an evening nature walk to see what plants are blooming and what animals are singing as spring transitions into summer.

A volunteer will meet you at the front gate with directions to the hike location. We plan to go off trail, so dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. Bring a water bottle and a hiking stick if you have one.

Please register each participant individually.

Summer hiking is hot! Skip the heat and join us on a dusk hike. We will look and listen for iconic summer creatures like frogs and owls.

Remember to pack water and good walking shoes.

Families who have never had experience shooting .22 rifles are invited to participate in an instructor led, live fire session learning safety and the proper techniques of shooting .22 rim fire rifles. Firearms, ammunition, and safety equipment will be provided

Ants go marching one by one, but what are they doing? Find out what keeps these tiny but mighty insects busy as we learn about their lives through imaginary play and outdoor exploration. Little Acorns programs are designed to help children ages 3-6 learn about the natural world through hands on experiences, crafts, and focused free-play activities.
